We are delighted to welcome Psychodynamic Psychotherapist Dervla Shannahan to the Alma Vale Centre

Dervla Shannahan

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

– Thursdays 1.00pm – 9.00pm
– Initial Consultations also available Saturday mornings

Dervla is excited to be part of Alma Vale Centre’s holistic approach to women’s health and wellbeing.

She works with people who are curious about themselves – those who sense there is something more beneath the surface worth exploring. You might arrive with a vague sense that something feels off, despite things looking fine on the outside.
Or you might have a clear idea of what needs to shift. Her approach provides a confidential space to explore patterns that keep repeating, relationships that feel stuck, or choices you’ve outgrown.

What is Psychdynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy traces how the past shapes your present in order to better define the future you want. Sessions are grounded in whatever you feel like sharing, while staying orientated towards where you want to go.

What Can it Help With?

Dervla specialises in relationship difficulties. She has extensive experience supporting clients through family building, fertility treatments, pregnancy, postnatal experiences, and parenting challenges. She also works with physical intimacy issues.

Dervla helps clients to manage huge life transitions such as divorce, career shifts, relocation or periods of reinvention.

She is also skilled at helping you to process childhood experiences and understand how these might be shaping your present relationships.

Dervla’s Background

Dervla qualified more than a decade ago. She is registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and Severnside Institute of Psychotherapy.

Dervla also has a PhD in ethnography from Goldsmiths University of London. This study of how people make meaning within groups and collectives informs her therapeutic work.

She is currently completing an MA in Applied Neuroscience at King’s College London, integrating cutting-edge neuroscience research with psychotherapeutic practice.

Cost and Frequency

Sessions are £75 for 50 minutes, with a limited number of reduced-fee spaces available. Sessions are once or twice weekly depending on your needs.

If you are curious about how therapy may help you, Dervla always recommends an initial consultation to explore whether her approach resonates with you.
