It was through having a massage and experiencing how amazing it made her feel that led Piia Laakso to train as a massage therapist herself. She has been practising massage therapy since 1999, and trained through the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork.
The massage therapy she provides ranges from deep-tissue, which can be good for people who exercise a lot, to holistic massage with its focus on treating physical symptoms as well as improving your wellbeing, right through to energy work via Reiki, which is more light touch. She also works with trigger points to help release tension and promote healing in particular muscles, for example, when treating specific injuries.
These massage treatments can help to reduce muscular tension, increase circulation, boost immunity, and clear the body from toxins in the muscle tissue, promoting healing generally. Massage can be a helpful way to maintain your feeling of calmness, and your muscle energy and health, which is why Piia has many clients who have regular treatment, as well as those who come on a more ad-hoc basis. Her focus is on dealing with the person’s body and mind, where it is at that moment, to provide a treatment that is in tune with their specific needs at that time.
Having studied for a BSc Honours Degree in Health Sciences, Piia is interested in many aspects of healthcare. For two days a week, she also works for the Blood Service, which gives her involvement in a completely different area, and she enjoys the variety this provides.
Piia loves her work, and how it can help people. She enjoys the instant feedback of seeing how people look and feel better after the massage treatment, and for this reason she believes she will always practise as a massage therapist.
Away from massage, Piia enjoys a range of outdoor activities, including running, surfing and snowboarding.

I’ve used massage for well being and sport related injury for over 20 years. For the last 8 years I have used only Piia. The reasons are simple. She’s very professional, intuitive and questioning. No two massages are the same and feedback is always sought and comments offered on what Piia thinks during the massage. I would highly recommend first time massage clients or regular users to book a session without hesitation.
I have known Piia Laakso for a good many years as a client. I have always felt she is my trusted therapist. I believe I have clocked up around 90 massage sessions with her over this period. In fact, I had a two hour session with her the day before yesterday, and I remember thinking that Piia impressed me the first day I had with her, and has never stopped impressing me to this day. I was always aware that she was the most requested therapist at the Relaxation Centre, and the people I have encouraged to go to her have come back saying she has extraordinary massage skills. If I were to describe these skills, in a nutshell, I would say she has a wide dynamic range of healing powers, a touch that communicates extreme sensitivity, warmth and comfort; she achieves total empathy with her subject; and one is left in no doubt after a session that one has received the utmost care and attention possible from another human being. I wholeheartedly recommend Piia as a Massage Practitioner, and will be enjoying her sessions for many years to come.
I was treated to a pregnancy massage with Piia for my birthday and at 34 weeks pregnant it was possibly the best present at the perfect time. By 34 weeks I was feeling the aches and the pressure on my body and within minutes of meeting Piia I knew these would all be relieved. As the hour long session progressed I felt more and more relaxed and tension free. I felt almost weightless as the session came to a close and that evening I had one of the best night’s sleep. The connection between Piia’s massage technique, myself and the baby felt seamless and comforting. I would recommend this at any stage of pregnancy if you feel the need to restore some calm to your body and enjoy your pregnancy journey.
