Year of the Horse

In Chinese culture, the Horse is known for its energy, speed and perseverance. It is associated with success and good fortune, which is achieved quickly.

Those born in the year of the horse are believed to have the traits of being hardworking, warm-hearted and independent. They are generally sociable people with good communication skills. But they may dislike being reined in by others, and can be stubborn.

The Horse is known to be happy to take risks and seek new experiences. They value loyalty and honesty, and tend to be direct and sincere.

Ways to celebrate Chinese New Year

The New Year is always celebrated in style with fireworks and parades. On New Year’s Eve, the streets are often lined with decorations, colourful props, and lighting.

You can create these decorations at home by making these typical new year crafts. Putting up those decorations is thought to keep evil away and is a prayer for blessing, longevity, health, and peace.

On New Year’s Day, it is customary to put on new clothes, and offer a Chinese New Year blessing and greeting. Saying “Gongxi” (恭喜/gong-sshee – ‘respectful congratulations’), wishes each other good luck and happiness in the New Year.

You could also cook some traditional Chinese New Year food:
