Dervla Shannahan
Dervla Shannahan works with people who are curious about themselves. You might arrive with a vague sense that something feels off, or you might have a clear idea of what needs to shift. Her approach provides a confidential space to explore patterns that keep repeating, relationships that feel stuck, or choices you have outgrown.
In her practice as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, Dervla specialises in relationship difficulties, navigating family life, and managing huge life transitions such as divorce, career shifts, relocation, or periods of reinvention. She is also skilled at helping clients to process childhood experiences and understand how these might be shaping their present relationships.
Dervla has extensive experience supporting clients through family building, fertility treatments, pregnancy, postnatal experiences, and parenting challenges. She also works with physical intimacy issues and collaborates closely with acupuncturists and other health professionals as part of integrated care.
Dervla qualified in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in 2016 and is registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council. She completed her year of pre-clinical training at the Philadelphia Association, London in 2018. Then in 2019, she gained a PhD in ethnography at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is currently completing an MA in Applied Neuroscience at King’s College London.
Dervla is excited to be part of Alma Vale Centre’s holistic approach to women’s health and wellbeing.
