Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can be defined as the controlled use of essential oils to maintain and promote physical, psychological and spiritual wellbeing. Essential oils are volatile substances that occur naturally in a variety of plants growing the world over. They are highly aromatic and their scent makes a vital contribution to it’s natural healing properties.

After a detailed consultation essential oils are selected for your individual needs and blended for your treatment. You are also given an oil at the end of your massage to use at home.

FAQs about Aromatherapy

During the massage the aromatic molecules affect the body through their inhalation and through their absorption into the blood stream. This is combined with various massage techniques tailored to create a relaxing, sedative or energising massage.

Aromatherapy has physical and psychological effects on the body, here are some of the conditions it can be used for:

    • Stress-related conditions
    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Insomnia
    • Fatigue and tiredness
    • Chronic pain
    • Headaches and migraines
    • Muscle aches and pains
    • Menstrual pain and irregularities
    • Skin conditions
    • Circulatory problems
    • Respiratory Infections
    • Gastrointestinal discomfort

After an initial consultation to look at the reasons for having the treatment, lifestyle and any relevant history, the therapist will make up a blend of oils to use in the massage. It is a full body massage including many different massage techniques, the focus being on the oils so it can be a lighter type of massage than a swedish or holistic massage.
