Pilates

Pilates originated in America in the 1920s, and was developed by a German named Joseph Pilates. He set up a gym in New York, and initially his exercise programme was called Contrology. Pilates aims to target posture, flexibility, balance and strength. Core strength is especially addressed, and you are encouraged to actively think about the quality of each movement.

What can Pilates help with?

Pilates exercise can help to improve your posture, strength and body awareness.

It can also be helpful for ante-natal and post-natal women, who want to feel confident and safe with their exercise.

You will be taught Pilates under the APPI method, which is very physiotherapy directed.

What are the benefits of a 1:1 session?
Having a 1:1 session with a Pilates Instructor means the exercise is tailored for your needs. It can help you to focus in on your goals, and provide you with an individualised exercise programme.
What can I expect from a session?

At your first appointment, the Pilates Instructor take a history of your health and finds out about your symptoms.

The Instructor will discuss your goals, and will then assess your strength and ability with an initial Pilates session.

You will then be given a targeted plan for future sessions. Expect to feel challenged during the exercises, but the Instructor will adapt the programme according to your needs.

What should I wear / bring with me?

Please wear comfortable and exercise-appropriate clothing, such as leggings and a T-shirt. You will need to either wear socks or be barefoot. Please bring a bottle of water with you for hydration.
