Mummy MOT

A Mummy MOT® is a specialist post-natal checkup following a vaginal or C-section delivery – no matter how long ago. Even if your pregnancy and birth go smoothly, your body goes through a lot of physical changes affecting your posture, joints, abdominal muscles and pelvic-floor muscles. A Mummy MOT® provides post-birth rehabilitation to help you regain optimal function and strength, and help to minimise pain.

FAQs about Mummy MOT

Issues commonly seen post-natally that a Mummy MOT® can help with include:

    • Back pain, pelvic-girdle pain, sciatica
    • Abdominal separation
    • Perineal tears
    • Urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency
    • Bowel issues
    • Pelvic organ prolapse, feelings of heaviness in the vagina.

As well as treatment to help you regain strength, and minimise pain, you will also receive advice on how to care for yourself. This will include how to look after your posture, hold and lift your baby, prevent neck and shoulder pain, as well as return to exercise and activities you enjoy.

You may require further treatment beyond one appointment dependent on your goals and the outcome of your assessment. The Physiotherapist will discuss this with you as part of your treatment plan.

Our Physiotherapist is happy to review you from six weeks post-natally.

    The assessment includes:

    • Detailed history of your health and symptoms
    • Postural assessment
    • Back assessment
    • Breathing assessment
    • Functional movement – especially relevant to post-natal mums
    • Abdominal / stomach check
    • Pelvic-floor review.

After your assessment, you will be sent a written report and advice on a treatment plan.

    This will include:

    • Advice on return to exercise
    • Functional strengthening and core exercises
    • A link to Mummy MOT® exercise videos
    • Pelvic-floor exercises tailored for you
    • Advice on posture and lifting activity
    • Outline of any further treatment required.
