Ever wondered what a Mummy MOT® is? Find out from our physiotherapist Liz Brown
So what is involved?
During the 1 hour consultation, your posture, pelvic floor and deep core abdominal muscles will all be checked by a pelvic physiotherapist. It is important that all three of these elements are working well together before returning to exercise.
What else is provided?
- A full posture screen
- Pelvic floor assessment (with or without an internal examination)
- Diastasis recti check (abdominal separation)
- Bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction screening
- Individualised exercise programme to fit into your lifestyle and fitness goals
Depending on your personal goals, it may be recommended that you have follow-up physiotherapy sessions to support you. The latest evidence and guidelines will be used to support you on a safe return to exercise.
When is it suitable to have a Mummy MOT?
It is best to wait until six weeks after birth for any internal examination. That said, it is still appropriate to have a Mummy MOT years after childbirth, especially if you are struggling with any pain or symptoms such as leaking, or lower back pain.
How do I book in?
The Mummy MOT sessions are held at the Alma Vale Centre, Clifton. You can find a time to suit you via Liz’s online booking system. If you have any extra questions please don’t hesitate to email email@example.com
