As it is Migraine Awareness Week, we are focusing on how just some of the therapies on offer at the Alma Vale Centre can help with this difficult condition – each day this week one of our therapists will share what their treatment can offer
Many of us will have either suffered from migraine at some point in our life, or know of friends or loved ones who have this condition. So we will know what a debilitating and difficult condition it can be to live with.
Common condition
In fact, according to the Migraine Trust, migraine is the third most common disease in the world, and it affects 1 in 7 people. At least 50% of migraines go undiagnosed, indicating that the illness is even more prevalent than that.
Three times more women are affected than men, due mainly to hormonal reasons.
There are also a range of different types of migraine – from those with aura, and those without, from chronic ones that occur at least 15 days per month, to menstrual migraines – the Migraine Trust gives details of the key symptoms of these and other types of migraine.
Avoiding side-effects
Many of the medicated drugs that are used to treat migraine can also come with difficult side-effects, adding to the misery that the condition itself causes.
But there are natural treatments available. According to the Migraine Trust, headaches are one of the top health problems treated by complementary therapies.
Migraine Awareness Week
To mark Migraine Awareness Week, we are running a series of newsletters sharing how different individual therapies at the Alma Vale Centre can work to help treat migraine naturally.
