So it’s that time of year again, Blue Monday is back today.
To help you through the most depressing day of the year we’ve asked our own Deborah Clarke for top tips. 5 ways to stay happy in the winter months. Find out more about Deb and her practice here
1 – Nature Therapy –
Getting out for a walk whatever the weather is a great way for coping with depression. But this doesn’t mean you have to plan a two hour hike, an hours drive away. It can be as simple as a ten minute stroll around your neighbourhood. Although if you get the opportunity, a change of scenery, in a more beautiful setting can boost your mood even more. Think the coast, the woods, or a well kept park … but remember … wrap up warm!
2 – Yoga Poses –
Doing yoga poses where the head sits below the heart can help improve your mood. Incorporate poses like downward facing dog or forward bends into your daily practice to help give you a boost.
3 – Writing a morning journal –
Morning pages are a feature of Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artist’s Way’. They are something I also reccomend for those feeling a little low. Take a couple of minutes every morning to write down your thoughts, feelings or rants. This can help clear your head so you’re better prepared to face the day.
4 – ‘A problem shared is a problem halved’ –
Make the most of your friends and family! Share your problems with them. It may seem embarrassing or trivial but it can help you take the weight off your mind. You never know, they may be able to offer fresh perspective from their own experiences. They may be able to suggest ways of dealing with it, or offer a supportive shoulder to lean on.
5 – Bonus tips
Visit a spa, have a massage, try counselling.”
