Reproductive Reflexology is a structured reflexology programme that is used to enhance male and female natural fertility. It can also be used alongside more conventional medically supported cycles such as clomid, IUI, IVF and ICSI.
Reflexology is a treatment involving gentle yet firm pressure on the feet and is often described as very relaxing and grounding often leaving clients feeling emotionally balanced with a more positive outlook.
What is Reproductive Reflexology?
Reproductive Reflexology is a structured reflexology programme that is used to enhance male and female natural fertility, and it can also be used alongside more conventional medically supported cycles such as clomid, IUI, IVF and ICSI.
Reflexology is a treatment involving gentle yet firm pressure on the feet and is often described as a very relaxing and grounding often leaving clients feeling emotionally balanced with a more positive outlook.
Reproductive reflexology provides a space where clients can feel held, heard and supported respectfully.
Reflexology treatments work really well on their own, alongside medical treatment as well as other complementary therapies such as fertility acupuncture and massage.
How does Reflexology work?
The body’s organs, systems and structures are mapped on the feet and hands. By working the areas that correspond with the hormonal and reproductive systems we aim to improve their function and ability to heal.
By using a combination of techniques such as thumb and finger walking, massage, movement and stretching of the feet, toes and hands we can treat the whole body encouraging it to reset, balance and heal.
In addition, by easing the body and mind into a state of deep relaxation we are reducing the flight or fight stress response which is essential to manage any condition affected by hormonal disruption and imbalance.
What conditions can it help with?
Just some of the female conditions/concerns we can work with are:
- Annovulatory/ Irregular cycles
- Progesterone deficiencies
- Polycystic Ovaries and Ovarian Cysts
- Repeated miscarriage
- Repeated attempts at IVF / ICSI
- Unexplained infertility
- Secondary infertility
- Early menopause
- Peri –menopause
Male conditions or concerns we can work with are:
- Hormone imbalance
- Sperm quality and quantity
- Sperm DNA Fragmentation Issues
- Vasectomy reversal
What can I expect from a session?
At the consultation we will discuss reproductive health and fertility issues. From this we will devise a fertility reflexology programme aimed to improve symptoms and/or to support you throughout assisted fertility treatment.
- Treatment plans will generally involve weekly reflexology sessions that aim to:
- Help treat any underlying conditions affecting fertility
- Mirror the different stage of the cycle to encourage the body back into rhythmic flow
- Support and enhance assisted conception
- Minimise drug side effects
- Provide emotional support
At the first appointment you will be given a fertility pack which includes diet and lifestyle advice, thermometer and chart plus instructions for temperature charting, this is necessary so we can take a detailed look at the different phases of the cycle to better structure our sessions and to monitor improvement.
It is advisable that both partners receive reflexology and this can be particularly beneficial to men who may require additional support at this time too.
When is the best time to receive the treatment?
It is recommended that a three month preconception care programme is started before trying to conceive to ensure that egg and sperm cell health are at their best. This involves taking good quality supplements, improving diet and lifestyle, limiting or eliminating caffeine and alcohol, reducing high intensity exercise and reducing stress levels.
We suggest that reproductive reflexology should also be received during this time before trying to conceive naturally or through medical fertility treatment to give you the best possible chance of a successful and healthy pregnancy and baby.
